It’s March! Time for our last Social – Friday, March 7, 2025
Put on your thinking caps for some triva challenges. Still unanswered is the state insect of VT?!!! We’ll gather in the Stratton View Room, third floor in the Bromley Lodge at 2:30 p.m. Wear your name badges and introduce yourself to someone you don’t know. Who among the group has been skiing Bromley the longest? longest consecutive? Where did you grow up skiing?
Finger Food munchies welcome. SG love to eat. One drink voucher/person.
Who’s Andy? A new ‘voice’ at Bromley this season is that of Andy Papas writing his creative Snow Reports complete with storytelling, metaphors and imagery – and length. But, SURPRISE, did you know his booming baritone voice is that of a professional opera performer?
Andy’s Facebook page is a superb showcase of his talents. He’s known as the ‘Opera & Musical Theater Funny Guy based in Boston’.
Andy has been performing his whole life especially favoring ‘buffo’ (comedic) roles in such operas as the Pirates of Penzance and the Barber of Seville. He teaches voice lessons to students all over the world… as well as opera and musical theater appreciation classes on Zoom. (Interested?)
Andy’s bio and performance schedule can be found here. Having never ever been to an opera or knowing little about the art, I think watching Andy Papas in a performance might be a great introduction.
Andy grew up skiing in NH at Cranmore, Bromley’s sister resort, and comes to Bromley seasonally – from his condo in the Village. I haven’t heard him yodeling as he swishes down the mountain, but maybe we’ll get to see a little cameo performance sometime when he’s here at Bromley. What about an audio Snow Report, Andy?
To ski afar?
Did you know that Bromley pass holders can ski Mt Cranmore, NH and Jimney Peak, MA with their pass? One Silver Griffin reported excellent night skiing this season at Jimney, closing at 10 pm.
What other options are nearby, outside VT? Two of us ventured to Gore Mountain in NY over the holiday week. It’s two hours from Manchester, the cost for 60+ seniors is $65, the mountain has an extensive and varied trail system and little crowding even on a holiday week. We were spontaneous deciding what day to go entirely dependent on a sunny forecast. We also elected to stay overnight before in the Lake George/Warrensburg area driving home after skiing.
Would anyone be interested in participating in an informal ski venture to Gore in March? The biggest plus is skiing with someone who knows the mountain – ie. where to park, where to boot up, where to find the bathrooms (unfortunately DOWN from where we booted!), which trails to ski, etc. Email SilverGriffins60@gmail.com if you’d like more information. Would anyone be interested in organizing a ski trip elsewhere or other activity, perhaps for next year?

Our Heartfelt appreciation to all the people and the ways they make our group and the winter mountain experience happen… from management, to shuttle drivers, to ticket office, to rentals, to food service, to lift operators, snowmakers, groomers, to the 25 International students here this year and all the folks behind the scenes. We don’t see you all, but we reap the rewards of all you do. THANK YOU. .
